Currently residing in New York, Stacy Wilson is a saxophonist with the West Point Concert Band and Saxophone Quartet. While pursuing the Doctor of Music degree in Saxophone Performance (in progress), she was an Associate Instructor of Saxophone at Indiana University Bloomington from 2003-2008. Stacy earned the Master of Music in Saxophone Performance from Indiana University and the Bachelor of Music degree in Saxophone Performance from the University of North Carolina Greensboro where she graduated with honors. She has studied primarily with world renowned saxophonists, Otis Murphy and Steven Stusek, but has also had the opportunity to have lessons with Vincent David, Arno Bornkamp, Jan Shulte-Bunert and Emile Naoumoff.

A recipient of Indiana University’s prestigious Performer’s Certificate, the institution’s highest honor for instrumental performers, Stacy has garnered prizes for solo performances in National, North American and International competitions. She most recently won 3rd Prize in the Gaudeaumus International Interpreters Competition in Amsterdam as a saxophone/piano duo with pianist, David Hughes. In addition, Stacy was selected as a Semi-Finalist in the Jean-Marie Londeix International Saxophone Competition at Mahidol University in Bangkok, Thailand in 2008, Concert Artists Guild International Competition and the Maine International Young Artist Competition in 2009. In 2005 Stacy became the first saxophonist to win 1st Prize in the William C. Byrd International Young Artist Competition. In addition, Stacy received 1st Prize in the prestigious Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) National Collegiate Artist Woodwind Performance Competition by a unanimous decision by the judging panel, 3rd Prize in the North American Saxophone Alliance Young Artist Classical Competition, 1st Prize in the Greensboro Music Teachers Association Young Artist Competition, 1st Prize in the Indianapolis Matinee Musicale Competition and winner of both the Indiana University Concerto Competition and the UNCG Annual Concerto Competition. As the winner of the Audience Choice Award, she won 1st Prize in Indiana University’s Travel Grant Competition in 2007.

Stacy has performed internationally throughout the United States, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands and Thailand. She has recently been invited to be a guest artist performer at the Ressegata di Nuova Musica Festival in Italy with pianist, David Hughes in 2010. An advocate of new music, Stacy has premiered and commissioned works composers including Michael Djupstrom, Brian Buch, Roshanne Etezady and Ida Gotkovsky.

Winning 2nd Prize in the North American Saxophone Alliance Quartet Competition, Stacy is the soprano saxophonist with the Zzyzx Quartet. ZSQ was formed in 2007 and has quickly gained high regard after performances at the 2010 and 2008 North American Saxophone Alliance Biennial Conference, the 2009 Navy Band Saxophone Symposium, World Saxophone Congress XV in Bangkok, Thailand, as well as numerous guest recitals and master classes across the United States. Zzyzx is committed to the advancement of quartet repertoire, and has commissioned and premiered numerous new works by composers such as Erik Norman, Elliot Bark, Matthew Peterson, Ian Stewart, Sarah Gibson, Laura Kramer, David Rokowski, Jonathan Sokol and John Leszczynski. In 2007, Stacy won an international recording grant competition that enabled her to record her debut solo CD. This recording will be distributed by the Emeritus Recording label and will feature works by Edison Denisov, Florent Schmitt, Ida Gotkovsky, Christian Lauba and Sy Brandon. The recording is scheduled to be released in 2010.

Stacy has appeared as a concerto soloist with the Flint Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Francesco Maria Colombo, the IU University Orchestra conducted by Uri Mayer, the West Point Concert Band and the UNCG Symphony Orchestra. As a scholarship recipient, Stacy studied at the 2nd and 4th Internationale Meister-Klasses fur Klassiches Saxophone and was a featured soloist at the Hessenbruckenmuhle in Labauch, Germany. Stacy has recorded for IU Professor of Composition, Don Freund, and has performed at prestigious conservatories and conventions including the Juilliard School, World Saxophone Congress, Navy Band Saxophone Symposium, NASA Biennial Conferences, Gaudeamus Festival, national concert series, Avery Fischer Hall with the New York Philharmonic and was a featured guest artist at the First Annual Carolina Saxophone Symposium.
